Rembrandt & Vermeer: Two Dutch painters as seen by two Texas Poets.
Poetry Reading and Slideshow with Judith & Ken Lauter.
Judith Lauter is a poet, photographer, and neuroscientist. She has published ten collections of poems and images, many of them pairing her haiku poems with her color photographs. She will read from her book Light from the Left: Poems on Paintings by Rembrandt, accompanied by a PowerPoint show of paintings from across Rembrandt’s life. Along with observations on Rembrandt as a master of his medium, her poems make the case that his vision was surprisingly modern, informed by a healthy skepticism regarding all institutions, whether economic, political, or religious.
Ken Lauter is a poet, playwright, and essayist who has received multiple awards for his poetry. His ten collections of poetry, cover a variety of topics including human anatomy, the anthropology of ghosts, Wallace Stevens, and a prose-and-poetry narrative about the ‘Rocking-K War,’ a grass-roots campaign to save the pristine Rincon Valley adjacent to Tucson AZ. He will read from his poetry book Vermeer in Words, accompanied by a slideshow of the paintings.
